OVERALL.

IMAGELAB.

over the past 12week term, i can actually say i have learnt something!

looking over

i wish i took more time to tend to my pinhole work

and experiment with colour paper.

with scanography i intend to play around on photoshop

add layer of negative, text and colour perhaps?

the cyanotype had to be my favourite lab

hands down

i loved the anticipation

of what would come out and the general

'hands on' approach!

bigger next time?

im also very glad that we were introduced to the

narrative concepts of photography

this helped me think about what my work and images mean

before making the image

it gave me help in planning and research

making life a lot more easier

when coming to a title or evaluation!

i also liked the idea of a Lab being titled

TIME

a broad term

which helps you dig deeper into concepts

and become more creative.

being able to offically use a large format camera!

that i another highlight!!

i would love to find out more about effects and editing!

overall

i enjoyed this term

the thing that i did struggle with is the writing part

WEEKELEVEN

FINAL EXHIBITION

i bought in the following objects

3 melted candles, red wine bottle, rum bottle and a scarf

i thought these would be suitable as from my research

bottles and candles seem to be common objects

i thought id put a twist on the table cloth in

exchange for a colourful and decorated scarf.
this week i was on my own as no one else turned up to the session
so it was lucky i went through everything so through last week
with Peters help
i set two lights shinning on the light table
with the camera face on and head height slightly tilted down.
i arranged my 'still life'
and took a reading with my light meter.
i loaded the film with two negatives
and decided to do an exposure either side of the light reading
f.16
i then took my film to be developed in the C41 printer in the processing area.
this was a first for me as have never produced colour film before.
it was a big machine with hand inserts w
here you have to take out the negative and feed it through the machine
10mins later your negative feeds through completely processed (:

this is my negative

the scanner wasn't the cleanest hence the blotches

intend to scan this through the digital negative scanners

in order to see the image as it was intended

we also took our time pieces as well as our digital process work
into the suite to be printed onto a3
this was then to be displayed in the gallery for the exhibition in the evening
celebrating an end to first term

WEEKTEN

STILL LIFE

i had been looking forward to operating

large format cameras

all term

i had an inkling that it would be next term

but

HORRAY!

after grasping an idea for still life

stephen took us through our induction

this was with the digital negative scanners

in the Digital Editing Suite

to then how to set up the camera

i am very familiar with the studio and its equipment

so lighting was very easy

and i even helped out!

i didn't have any objects with my this week

so i decided to assist my peer with their work

this gave me a chance to fully understand

the preparation, arrangement and process

of taking the image.
i also found this website extreamly useful for tips and tricks!

WEEKNINE

TIME

after pondering ideas for this week

iv decided to look at a change over time

Cuba is a country of socialist principles.

The government own the rights to just about everything,

making it merely impossible for the Cuban people

to buy cars, land, houses, earn, even buy food.

For such a vivacious community,

the public are faced with a sever economy issues

resulting in an island stuck in a time warp

and slowly breaking apart.

The faces of the Cuban community

prove that even in a less fortunate world,

you can be happy.

The idea of portraying a simpler and underprivileged lifestyle

in a more cherished light

is something visually mesmerising.

iv chosen this image

as i see it as a canvas for free expression

from the citizens of Santiago

the metal board describes tours

offered to people for money around the city.

Santiago is one of the oldest

and most important cities in the country

it is the home of Cuba's Revolutionary Hero

Fran Pais

and in the 1950s p

aired with Fidel Castro p

proclaimed victory.

Now, many years later

locals are still willing to share the war with anyone willing to listen.

We were informed to bring in objects for our final project
STILL LIFE
in large format
so
i began research still life in a fine art perspective
in order to gain an idea of the composition i should be applying
as well as the lighting and objects.
